Hello Listers and especially Arthur, wherever you are,
The Carden List has been remarkably quiet lately so thought I would post a message.
I am on the Cheshire list and this week I spotted a message from a lady who had been sent
information on graves in the Winsford area of Cheshire. She was looking for the name
Atherton but she also had information on other names including Carden. She offered this
information to anyone interested so of course I wrote and asked her everything she had on
Carden. Knowing you, you will probably already have a note of these people, but here is
the info. as it was sent to me:
The Carden graves are in Wharton Churchyard (Wharton cemetery wasn't opened until
1900)
Annie Maria, of Wharton; daughter of William & Maria Carden, 29 Sep 1877, aged 3
years 7 months
Emma, daughter of above (William & Maria), 15 Oct 1877, aged 1 year 4 months
Mary Alice, daughter of above (William & Maria), 18 Oct 1885, aged 1 year 7 months
Annie Maria Carden, 20 Sep 1931, aged 80 years
William Carden, 15 Dec 1936, aged 85 years
Nathan Carden, of Wharton, 3 Mar 1919, aged 50 years
Walter, son of above, 3 Oct 1917, aged 21 years
Eliza, Wife of Nathan, 10 Feb 1920, aged 68 years
(Walter may be in the Winsford Returns - which gives details of service by Winsford men in
the war. )
Aaron Carden, of Wharton, 2 Jun 1915, aged 86 years
Sarah, wife of above, 25 Jun 1917, aged 86 years
Elizabeth Atherton of Wharton, wife of Clifford Atherton, 4 Dec 1895, aged 27 years
Thomas their son, (Cifford & Elizabeth), 13 Mar 1916, aged 27 years
Clifford Atherton, 22 Oct 1939, aged 71 years
Elizabeth Atherton, mother of Clifford, 24 Jan 1926, aged 81 years
I am writing to thank Elizabth Atherton for the information. I don't know if she is
related to the Athertons in the 3rd grave, who presumably are related to the Cardens. I
will ask her.
Best wishes to all,
Lynn Bateman
