I have just received my copy of a splendid new book about Cardens written by
Ronnie Bates of Australia. She has given me permission to tell the list
about it, as she seems unwilling to blow her own trumpet.
It is called "CARDEN FAMILY to Australia" and is No 2 in her series
"Grandma!
Where did I come from?" In 174 A4 pages she lists all the Cardens from
Templemore/Barnane/Fishmoyne in Tipperary (there are about 400 Cardens in the
index), with notes and stories about a good many of them, with special
emphasis on the descendants in Australia of Nicholas Carden 1737-1815 of
Barnane.
Unfortunately she says "don't encourage buying the book as I sold enough
copies here although I do have a few copies left. I feel that your book
really would be the better authority for world sales. My aim was to get
some information into the Libraries in Australia and into my family homes for
their later generations."
My book to which she refers ("Carden Family: Irish Branches") is a very long
way from completion. I guess it may appear towards the end of 2001. So I
wish she would make hers more widely available. Anyone interested could try
to persuade her to let them have one of her spare copies (for 40 Australian
Dollars - about 16 pounds sterling or 25 US dollars plus postage). Perhaps
if she gets enough requests she might have some more copies printed.
Her ID is ronnie(a)southwest.com.au and there is some more information on her
site
