Hey folks. It's been kind of quiet on the list lately, with one exception.
It appears that we have been recieving much more spam. For those of you new
to the e-mail world, that means unsolicited e-mail typically sent to
thousands of recipients at once. I have looked, and thay are sending it to
the list directly. Usually, the filters stop it, but not lately. So, I
need for everyone with the list address (Carden-l(a)rootsweb.com) posted on a
webpage to please remove it. It is common for these spammers to use what is
known as a "robot" to search the web, and harvest the e-mails from web
pages.
Here's that best way you can help me:
1) At a minimum, change any links you have to the list address to only
text. In other words, you can put Carden-l(a)rootsweb.com on your page, but
please do not make it an active link. 75% of the robots will not interpret
this as an e-mail link, and will skip it.
2) To really prevent the robots, remove the link, and change the text on
your page that includes Carden-l(a)rootsweb.com to a graphic. It is
impossible for a robot to intrepret a graphic as an e-mail address. Also,
if you change it to a graphic, do not link the graphic to an e-mail address,
or likewise it will add it to the spam list.
Sorry to have to ask this, as I know it makes it just a little harder to
find, and subscribe to the list. The only other step I can take, is to
prevent any additional members from signing up without my permission. I
really don't want to do that, since I am terrible about signing up in a
timely manner those that need help.
OK, I'll go hide in my corner for a while again!

Hi, Jim, I have not received any spam directed to the CARDEN-L list, nor
have I received any increase in spam over and above the usual small amount.
