Thanks, Janet, for adding Carden Hollow, located in
Blountville, Tennessee, Sullivan County to the list of
places named Carden.
Since my earlier posting I have remembered three more:
CARDEN AVENUE in Brighton, England, named after mayor
Herbert Carden (born 1867), later Sir Herbert, "the founder
of modern Brighton."
CARDEN BOTTOM. "A small town, south of Carroll County but
still in Arkansas." Mentioned by the late Sally Carden in a
long and delightful letter to me in 1991. Her great
grandmother Elizabeth Coker Carden was from North Carolina.
Her grandfather Thomas Jefferson Carden was, she believes,
born in Georgia. Her father William Morris Carden was a
teenager in the Civil War and remembered hiding the animals
and burying valuables. If anyone would like me to send them
a copy of the letter, just say.
CARDEN POINT and CARDEN POINT MARINA. These are on a
Caribbean island, perhaps Antigua or St Croy. I have the
marina leaflet somewhere. I think the name came from an
Irish Carden who distinguished himself fighting against the
French there. Anyone have more information?
Has anyone looked CARDEN up in one of those websites for
locating places?
According to the GNIS site there are Carden Creek, Hills, and Lake up
near Fairbanks Alaska. Carden Branches in Benton Co AR, in Pulaski Co
GA, and in Monroe Co TN. A Carden Pond in Crisp Co GA. Towns named
Carden in Marshall Co Kansas and Barren County Kentucky (in addition to
the one on St Croix).
Cardin shows up as a branch in Faulkner Co AR. A lake in Colquitt Co
GA. A creek in Kootenai Co Idaho. A lake in Missouri. And a town in
Ottawa Co Oklahoma.
