Bobbie,
While researching my line, mostly in Georgia I have found both spellings on
the census. However the most common spelling is EN and that is the way the
family uses it today. I am not aware of anyone changing there names to
Carden here in the US except a couple step children in my line. I agree
with Chuck, don't call me late for dinner. I think that's a real Carden
trait.

Subject: [CARDEN-L] Names Changed to Carden
Are there any examples of people changing their name to Carden or
Cardin
in the United
States that anyone knows of? I know everyone on the Carden list has
probably heard
by now that my husband's family east of the Mississippi River ALL
spell
their name
Carden and all of us west of the Mississippi River spell our name as
Cardin even to this
day. Why I don't know - it was spelled Cardin in Spartanburg
County South
Carolina
and in most all Pickens County Alabama records! Not that it matters
because we are
all relatives, just one of those things you run into in genealogy.
