Howdy. I received the following message and wondered if anyone had any
information on Sarah Henry who married Rueben Carden 6/15/1825. She is
my direct line, but I've never had her parents or anything beyone her
dates of birth and death. I would love to be able to pass something on
to this woman. Her project sounds very interesting.

Hello Beth,
I just finished reading the memoirs of Robert Carden that you donated
for
all of us to read. I want to thank you for your time and effort in
making
this possible. I enjoyed reading it all. I do want to ask your help. I
am in
the process of writing a book on the living conditions of small farming
women
in the antebellum and postbellum South. I started this project five
years ago
while in graduate school in Atlanta. At that time, I was researching the
small farmer himself but the more I studied the farmer the more I became
interested in his wife. She worked hard and carried many burdens.
Oftentimes,
when her husband died, she was left without means of survival and
oftentimes
with many small children in her keep. After I finished my thesis, I
stated
researching only the small farming widow who found herself having to
survive,
alone, in an agricultural society.
I chose Coffee Co. as my target county because my sister-in-law is from
Coffee Co. and was able to provide me with primary source material which
was
helpful. That brought me to Sarah Carden. She fits the profile that I
need
because she was the wife of a small farmer and a widow in 1860. I have
accumulated some material about her such as census material and the
info.
provided by Robert Carden in his memoirs. But, do you have anything more
about Sarah? I need her parents names, where they were from origionally,
and
anything more that would bring Sarah alive in my writing. Also, info.
about
Reubin himself would be useful. I want to thank you again for all your
work
and thank you as well for all the time you have given me. I hope to hear
from
you soon. Vicki
