Trish:
We tentatively have planned to make Mebane the base for the reunion since it
is on the
Orange/Alamance County lines and is right on Interstates 85/40. It is
about 20 minutes from Hillsborough which is the county seat for Orange, 10
minutes from Graham which is the county seat for Alamance, and 30 minutes
from Durham County. Also the motel rates will be cheaper than in Orange
County where you have a tourist tax I think. If others (such as Carol
Scarlett) who are familiar with this area have a better idea, we are open for
suggestions. I guess it all depends on how many participants drive to the
reunion and how many fly in which may entail making vehicle arrangements for
those flying to be able to go wherever they want to. Thanks. Cheryl and
Fred Carden
Leland T. Carden here. I have been following the plans for a Carden
get-together with great interest. You can count on me being there, "the
Lord willing, and the Creeks don't rise".
I am a Methodist minister, currently located in Lewisburg, TN. Clinton, in
Anderson County is my home base, and most of the Carden's in Anderson,
Campbell, Grainger and surrounding counties are my relatives.
My descent comes from Robert Carden who entered Tennessee in the early
1800's from NC (whose spouse has been an elusive bit of info), through
Goldman Benton Carden (1810) , William Goldman Carden (1841), Goldman Benton
Carden (1869), and my father Leland Thornburg Carden, Sr. (1909).
I look forward to meeting those who may be able to attend, getting
acquainted, and sharing info.
Leland Thornburg Carden, Jr.
