Elisa: Your situation is one reason as to why it is so important to sort
the different Leonards, etc out. The pack of information I sent you gives
information as to his approximate age as shown on the 1810
Spartanburg County SC census - we are talking about Leonard Jr., now, not
Leonard Sr. of Spartanburg County SC. My list of census records on the 1850
Monroe County census with Synthia and family shows him as 57 in 1850 which
would have made him born in 1793.
Any other ideas on this appreciated. Bobbie-Original Message-----

Subject: [CARDEN-L] Leonard Carden birth date
Hi list, i have something that has bugged me for a long time and that
is
the year of birth for my Leonard ( who married Tabitha). some resources say
he was born in 1780, like his will which is dated 12/6/1854. the John Carden
VS Larkin Carden court case where the 2 brothers of my Reuben are fighting
over land says Leonard Sr. age 66, Larkin Sr. age 61, so there would be just
a 5 yr. difference in their ages. if you subtract 66 from 1847 you get 1781,
close enough.
Article # 547 of the History of Monroe Co. , written by DeWayne Carden
says
he was born in 1793.
Goodspeed's History of Monroe Co. says he was a soldier of the the
War of
1812, if he was born in 1793 he would have been 19 in 1812 or 30 if born in
1780. Goodspeed's also says he died at an advanced age, if born 1793 he
would have only been 41 but 1780 , aged 74.
i'm more likely to go with the 1780 date , but could anyone give
me an idea
why the difference or does anyone have proof of which one is correct.
