Jeannie:
My name is Richard Otis (my mother's maiden name) Carden; my father was Roscoe Carden,
a son of Isaac Green Carden and Eustacia Bell Lacy Hall (Miss Lacy, nee Lacy, was the
widow of Jake Hall), I. G., or Green as he was known to distinguish him from his father,
was a son of Isaac (NMI) Carden, who was a son of Joseph Carden, whose wife was Mary,
maiden name unknown. Joseph Jr. was a son of Joseph/Mary, and married Judith Kenner.
Joseph/Mary and family lived in Boteourt in the 1760-1800 time frame. Mambers of his
family, including Joseph W. subsequently moved on to Tennessee and what is now West
Virginia.
If you think your lineage is part of this, I'd be happy to provide you with as much
additional information as I have, which is rather extensive, but inconclusive as concerns
tracing back past Joseph/Mary. Botetourt County records imply that there was another
Joseph, much older, who was living with Joseph/Mary, but I have as yet no proof of that.
My suspicion is that my line is connected to the Goochland line, but in order to do so you
have to make a leap of faith which I am unwilling to do. I am presently preparing to
research the ship arrivals in Philadelphia as Botetourt County lies squarely on the
migratory route immigrants took from Pennsylvania down the Great Valley into Tennessee and
North Carolina.
In the"for what it may be worth" department, my father said that his father told
him that we were of Scot-Irish descent.
Best regards, (cuz?)
Dick

Hello Richard, thank you for responding. I am just trying to place
these
family lines where they belong so it's nice of you to add your info. You
say that this Joseph W. is your relation? Can you elaborate on your line of
Cardens? I would like to make sure I have your Joseph W. Carden in the
right family. Maybe you would be willing to share some names, dates and
places with me. If there's anything I can contribute to your research from
my line, let me know, I'll be glad to share.
Jeannie
