Hi Elisa,
I know it's been very quiet in the past months. Glad to see everyone is doing well.
Loved hearing from you and Martha in past years about your line since we are only a couple
of generations/ancestors removed from each other.
Yes bagpipes are moving, just amazing.
Annie

hi Vivian , long time no see, it's been a little quit around here lately so maybe this
subject will pick things up a bit.
i have always felt the same way...but then i am Scots/Irish through my moms Campbell /
Gilbreath line ...which is my maternal grandmothers family, the Cardens are through my
maternal grandfather.
there is something about those bagpipes that just make my heart fly everytime i hear
them.
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.

Yeah I'm descended from Leonard too, so I guess we're distant cousins. I've
always felt such an affinity for anything Scottish so I think we may have been mixed at
some point. My grandfather was a mason which I don't know much about but the sight of
those guys in their garb aligned on a hillside behind the cemetary when paw paw died and
the bagpipes playing was like right out of the movies.

well my DNA has been traced through one of my male cousins and matched up with the
Chesire England group and i had always thought that whichever one of the Carden men i am
descended from came into the US in the 1600's ....having been told that the family
came through Ireland and then into the US....wonder of they could have stopped off in
Scotland on the way to Ireland ...LOL
i am descended from Leonard Carden who married Tabitha Peace and then Synthia Henson.

Has anyone found information on what Clan the Scottish Carden line (this would be the
ancestors of David M. Carden (1792-1878 Veteran of War of 1812)) who came to "the
colonies" -Goochland Co VA, in the 1600's?
I know through DNA testing from relatives that this particular Carden line (my ancestors)
were orginally of the Scottish Cardens.
From my understanding of history, the Scotts Carden's were
"peers" and Carden name was originally Celtic and was Anglicanized at some point
before the 1500's or during that time. I also know Carden Tower is somewhere outside
of Edinbugh, Scotland.
My understanding is the Irish Carden line came to the US in the 1800's... and that
some of the African American Carden's adopted the name Carden from their
"masters" (yes, some Carden's- including David M. Carden- were slave holders
according to the 1850 slave census-- I have the docs attached to my tree if anyone wants
them-- certainly not a proud part of the family history but a part)...
But, back to the original question- Does anyone know which Scots Clan we decend from?
