Am subscribing for a time to enlist the help of this forum.
I was forwarded details taken from your list (via Texas) viz. towns named after CARDEN and
that a place in Ontario, Canada had been named after John SURMAN CARDEN. We (as in the
S*rm*n FHS) asked our Canadian representative to see if she could find out anything
further, only to find that J S CARDEN was the grandson of William Packer SURMAN of
Tredington, Gloucestershire (whose lineage we have back to c. 1460 in Eldersfield,
Worcestershire) and he makes mention of his Uncle John Surman. To date she has been
unable to locate the district known as CARDEN in Ontario. Any help would be appreciated.
A small section of John S CARDEN's memoirs has been forwarded on from Toronto which
makes very interesting reading. An inter-library loan means she has to wait 8 weeks,
however there is a copy for sale in California. In the meantime she noted the following
under the GOONS and has asked for my help.
"Contact Arthur Carden, Falmouth, Con TR11 3EN, Eng. Area of interest: Worldwide.
Considerable database exists. 'Cardon Family' book available."
Again, any assistance would be appreciated.
