I'm so sorry about your daughter-in-law's mother. Unfortunately, we are never
guaranteed tomorrow, so I try to make sure I tell my family I love them several times a
day.
We were involved in the "500 year" flood in '94 and '98. The river had
pretty much swallowed up a good bit of our town--even a cemetery. Pictures of caskets
floating by and stuck on the banks were truly heartbreaking.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Heidi

Hi Martha,
We are well. The path was about a mile NW of my house. Visited the area
Friday and the damage is extensive. My daughter-in-law's mother was a
casualty in Pratt City. The story and picture is on the front page of the
Birmingham News today.
Thanks to you and all the Carden listers for the expressions of concern.

I'm in southeast TN about 15 miles from Cleveland. As you know, Cleveland
was hard hit. But the storm missed us here. ? Thank you. ? Hugs, Kathy ? Hi
everyone,
I hope all of you on this list who live in AR, MS, AL TN, GA,
VA & the Carolinas are ok. Especially hard hit was north AL.
Please let us know how you fared thru it all. Many of us are concerned and
want to hear from you soon. A cousin in AR
just wrote this evening to say they'd been w/out power for
4 days this wek and had been 'camping out' at their house.
Please let us hear from? you all...
Martha

Thanks Elisa, Heidi and Dick, for letting us know how y'all are doing. I
know I speak for everyone on the list when I say we are SO glad all of you
are ok. Many are not ok at this sad time though.
IDK why the news outlets just concentrate on one or two areas
and seems to totally ignore many of the others when there's such
widespread devastation as this series of storms brought to the
South. The rest of us in AL & other states usually 'under the gun'
during spring storms and other types of bad weather situations
don't forget about you though. Our hearts go out to you. We
know that we're all 'just one storm away', and it could just as
well be us in the 'next round' of storms ! My sister & family live
in the Decatur-Arab, AL area. They were still w/out power yes- terday, but
ok otherwise. Just below them, in Cullman, their best friends' whole house
was blown away ! They lost every- thing but were blessed with keeping
their
lives.
My hubby's father was born in Montezuma, GA back in 1917.
We've just barely heard abt. this week's destruction there,
even now. Without family in the area, we probably still would not know
about
it. There are no serious injuries or deaths re- orted to me, so far.
If your churches were destroyed, as some have said, what did
it do to the church cemeteries? In AL there's help available for
that type of restoration, if it's not a 'perpetual care' facility.
Cleanups are done by volunteers thru the AL Cemetery Preser- vation
Alliance
(ACPA), with chapters in almost every county.
I've participated in several of these projects, EX: After the
Enterprise, AL tornado of 3/1/2007 that destroyed the HS
and killed 8 students, the city cemetery looked like a 'bomb'
had gone off there - glass, nails, etc. debris was everywhere;
large oak trees had fallen onto graves; and even it's beautiful,
newly built wrought iron & brick fence was levelled. If you
need more info., please let me know.
You're all in our thoughts & prayers daily during this difficult time.
PTL, Martha

the power went out here in Haleyville Wed. evening and did not come back
until yesterday evening after 4, even then it was just parts of Haleyville,
thank goodness i live in town so we got ours back earlier than thought.
there is damage , on Sam Letson Rd., the old Winston Furniture building (
major) , across the railroad, Fontaine Truck and Equipment Co. has some
damage, it may be the end of May before they are back up and running, some
trees down in the area also.
the news stations aren't saying much about Hackleburg and Phil Campbell,
but
Hackleburg is gone, so is a major part of Phil Campbell, the school will
have to be rebuilt. Mt. View church is in ruins, i have Carden relatives
buried there...the whole area looks like a bomb was dropped on it.....but
the news stations are more concrened with Prattville and Tuscaloosa,,,,,did
not hear anything of Obama visting either Phil Campbell or Hackleburg.
Knesset Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu said during a speech that ?if the Arabs
lay down their arms there will be no more war, but if Israel lays down its
weapons there would be no more Israel.?

Hi, Heidi from SW GA. We really missed the horrible devastation. We got
rain
and a little wind. My prayers are with all of you affected in any way.

Martha:
I'm one of the Virginia Cardens, but I've not been able to verify a
connection with the Georgia, Alabama and points south members of the clan.
We had a tornado touch down a few miles from us, but fortunately all we got
was rain by the buckets!
