Getting back into research.
Joseph. W. Carden was my great-grandfather.
Would like to find out what the W. stood for.
Also have found out he was an assistant surgeon in the CSA from 1861 to December, 1862.
He left the CSA because of a "disability" and I would like to find out what that
was.
TIA for any help and info.

Edith - If you had given a rough date of birth for your grandfather, that
would have helped. Of the many people named Joseph W Carden in Chuck's book
"Carden in America" which of these might be yours? Born 1782, 1805, 1824?
Hope others respond more helpfully! Arthur
