Dear Arthur
We recently received another result from the 25-marker DNA testing. Do
these test results get forwarded to you? If they dont, can you login to
the site and enter our kit & code numbers so you can go over the results and
compare us with other Cardens that you have on file.
Dear Carden Researchers,
We have received emails from:
James Carden of Stalybridge JCarrbrook(a)aol.com
Edward G Carden ecarden(a)cox.net
Elisa Sanford whose cousin Judson W Carden is on our list esanala(a)yahoo.com
I think we are related to Edward and Judson but not James. I went to the
Archives at our local college, East Tenn. State University and found a
folder that contains research on Cardens in this area. It was submitted by
a Roy W. Carden whose Gr Gr Grandfather is Ansel Carden. Ansel is also my
husband, Williams Gr Gr Grandfather. Roy and William are descendents of
two sons of Ansel- John Wesley Carden and Landon Carden. Roy claims we are
descended from John Robert Carden born 1613 in England. John Robert Carden
came to the state of Virginia in 1642. I have gone to
Rootsweb.com and gone
down the lineage, but still cannot connect Ansel. The following is what I
have found.

Now I am at a loss. I cannot find out which son moved to North Carolina,
which later became a county in northeast Tennessee and had a son named Ansel
who later married Susan Humphreys.
I have found a deed with the name Godfrey Carden in the Abstracts of the
Deeds of Carter County 1796-1824 by Mary Melver. It is dated for 23 Oct
1782 NC State Grant #34 @50 sh the 100A to Godfrey Carder [Ed note: Carden].
This deed was registered on 2 May 1807.
I have not been able to find a Godfrey Carder or Carden anywhere else. I
think I have hit a brick wall.
I am posting this on the Carden-L(a)rootsweb.com so everyone can read it and
maybe someone has the missing link that I need.
Rosemarie and William Carden
