Dear CARDIN / CARDEN Researchers,
As an interesting 30 day only project, Im asking other CARDIN / CARDEN
researchers who have tracked their family lines into ALABAMA & are
interested in seeing this information plotted onto a special map to
please contact me by email. I'm creating a migration map utilizing
county line demarkations to illustrate the presence of as many CARDIN /
CARDEN lines that came INTO Alabama as I can find. Most of these
ancestors came chiefly from the Southeastern states of VA, TN, NC, SC &
GA between pre-statehood (1810-1819) and the present time. Some CARDIN
/ CARDEN heads of household may have come directly into the state of
Alabama from a foreign country, and this information should be of
interest to all of us as well. Besides myself, I know of at least 5
other researchers on this list who are following Southeastern U.S.
CARDIN / CARDEN lines. Some of the information possibly connecting them
to a common CARDIN / CARDEN ancestor from before the time that ALABAMA
has been a state (1819) can be sparse, scattered...or even
non-existent. Hopefully there are more of you out there, and the
notice of this project is for everyone to whom it applies.
Once all lines submitted by email are tracked into Alabama, Ill label
the head of the family (families) that settled in each part of the
state & plot the county(ies) where they settled. If, in the first
couple of gen. after moving into AL, the head of a household (or his
son or grandson) moved out of AL, please note that. This esp. applies
to those CARDIN / CARDEN men who left the state, but some other family
members remained, i.e.- Carden women who mar. and changed their name to
that of their husband(s). These relationships should be noted as well.
I'll mention the names of those CARDIN / CARDEN men who left the state,
but won't plot the migration route of those people AFTER they left
Alabama.
Also, if your ancestor(s) patented land in Alabama bet. 1820-1907, and
is(are) in the BLM database, but didn't ever live in Alabama...please
note this to me as well. For ease of perusing this BLM list, Trish
Carden's excellent site has a listing of those who patented land in
Alabama during this time, faithfully compiled by Beth McDonald.

At this time I have already generated the Southeastern map to be used
for plotting this project. If you do choose to contribute, and I hope
that you do, please note if an ALABAMA county name or boundary changed
after (or while) your CARDIN / CARDEN family line has been (or was) in
the state.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this mail. If you know
anyone else who fulfills the criteria for this project (as Ive just
outlined it), but isn't on this list...please let them know to send in
their CARDIN / CARDEN info. to me by the deadline of June 4,2003 as
well. After that Ill generate the map w/ the info. that I have in
hand at that time ONLY. When the map is complete, I'll happily share
the information with the list by June 30, 2003.
Many Kind Regards, Martha Smith
