Those of you who have a copy of my 1975 volume "Carden Family I" or of
"Carden Miscellany 3" will know that there is a delightful pub called Bottle
House near Tonbridge in Kent, England, where several generations of the
family lived from about 1750 onwards.
On July 17 a dozen of us met there, together with a local history expert,
and exchanged information, visited churchyards and places where Cardens had
lived and generally had a good time. Few of us had ever met before. For
the meeting I produced a 140-page bound volume listing hundreds of Cardens
(including a large number in Australia) whose ancestors came from the
Tonbridge area. This is one of the most prolific Carden sources, and the
area appears to have been settled by Cardens from Cheshire, via the family
of the famous Dean of Chichester who moved from Cheshire in around 1550 and
was chaplain to the current King of England. DNA evidence supports this
theory.
I have some copies of "Carden Miscellany 3" left. I will gladly send one in
return for a ten dollar US bill or the equivalent to cover postage. (Sorry,
listowner, hope this does not count as Spam)
