Looking through some old papers I have just come across a print-out of a
message from Elisa Sanford dated 29 Dec 2003 attached to which she sent me
(on two pages) the extraordinary chart signed Thom Carden Ph.D. showing the
descent of many of the USA Cardens from a Robert Carden born about 1620 in
Tipperary (himself the son of John Carden and M Hedger who were married in
1758 in Hillingdon, Middlesex, England).
On the chart he has written "READING THIS CHART. Difficult as it may seem,
it's easy. Top line represents the 14 children of Robert & Phyllis, 5 of
which are traced to date."
The five (or six) are (as far as I can make out, though my copy of the chart
is very indistinct):
Reuben
James (m1782)
Robert m(1) Mary Tuggle m(2) Alice Robarts
Ledward (?)
Larkin b.1750
Jesse m Clara Satterwhite.
This remarkable chart appears to give information never seen elsewhere of
the origins of certain USA families.
Perhaps these are the "five brothers who came from England to fight in the
Revolutionary War, and settled in America when it was over" mentioned in all
kinds of diverse places. A while ago I checked the Hillingdon marriage and
it does indeed appear in the parish register, but I have not been able to
find John or his son Robert in Tipperary.
Elisa - would you please be kind enough to look at your copy of the chart
and report what it actually says?
Does anyone have a clear copy?
I have tried on several occasions to communicate with Dr Thom Carden, using
an email ID given to me by Chuck, but have never had a reply. Has anyone
any news of him and his amazing research?
Arthur Carden of Horsham, England.
