Many folks think that the entire 1820 Census for Alabama was lost in the
flood that destroyed the state capitol at Cahawba. However, the records
for 11 counties did survive. One of those counties whose records
survived was Shelby Co, AL.
Trish mentions those Shelby County results in her new site offerings.
Three Cardens turned up on the 1820 census for Shelby - Robert, Charles
and James Carden. Robert Carden (b.1776, VA) is the father, and Charles
& James were his sons. At this time Robert Carden's wife was Nancy
Haynes (b.Elbert Co, GA).
Question -- Was Elbert Co, GA on a regular migration path from VA to AL?
Is there any documentation for this?
Also, St. Clair Co, AL census records also survived for 1820 and the
name Trish listed Gordon Carden showing up there.
Question -- Could this possibly be Jordan Carden?
Some, or all, of this might be 'old info.' to some here, but I'm trying
to straighten out a few kinks in my notes, and just wanted to ask.
Thanks, Martha
