I think my ancestors change of the name from Carden to Cardon might qualify
under what Ronald is talking about...
From Joseph Carden (b. 1755) to Christopher Columbus Carden (b. 1813),
the
spelling of the name remained Carden. Christopher's son, Hugh Walker Cardon
(b. 1849), took the
-on spelling of the name as his surname, however, and it continued that way
until present-day for his descendants. We still would like to find out why
the name changed, but have had many possible reasons offered.
I have recently been contacted by two *cousins* who are descended from Allen
Dickerson Carden's line.....Carolyn Breshears and Ron Carden. Some of you
may already be in touch with them, but am really tickled to hear from new
folks myself! Ron Carden is looking for a death date for John Park Carden,
born abt. 1860. If you have any information regarding this...get in touch
and I can give you Ron's email. Have invited both to join the mailing list.
Carolyn is so new to research, she wants to wait a bit. Do hope you all will
encourage them to join us here if you contact them!
Ron Carden has some land record copies that we are going to use to try to
obtain the military records of Joseph Carden. It seems his trail disappears
in Monroe County West Virginia with his death in 1818. No one has contacted
me with any information prior to this date. If anyone has already done this
research...I would appreciate being contacted.
Hope everyone is doing well!
Cathy
