Hello everyone,
I have just recently joined this list and thought I would post my Carden
interests to see if anyone can help.
So far all the CARDEN family I have traced come from Romsey,Hampshire,
UK. This is a fairly new line to me but Martha CARDEN daughter of George
and Jane CARDEN (all born in Romsey according to the 1881 census)
married George DUKE on 9 Feb 1886 in Romsey Parish Church. At the moment
I know of 3 children baptized to them
24 Nov 1886 Mabel
7 Dec 1888 Frederick
6 Oct 1890 Bessie Elizabeth
My confusion with this family begins with the fact my gt-grandmother's
name was Lily Duke and I have never seen her referred to as anything
else but I cannot find her birth which would have been in 1890. I
believe she was born February 1st. Is it possible that she is Bessie
Elizabeth and for some reason was always known as Lily? How would I find
out if her baptism name and the name she used were 2 seperate things?
As for her mother, Martha I know very little, according to the 1881
census she has at least 3 younger brothers, Alfred,George and Frank.
Her father George CARDEN was a bricklayer.
Does anyone have any connections or information on this family?
Thanks very much..looking forward to being a member of this list!
Jo
