Just read your e.mail and was interested to know if you knew anything about
your CARDEN ancestor who originally came from England or Wales. My
husband's CARDEN family originated in North Wales. I do have some dates I
can let you have if you feel that there might be a connection.
Regards, Joan Hopkin

Hi All ---
I've just joined the list recently (bad modem has kept me offline for a
week or
so...but we gave it a decent "burial". So, life goes on ...with a
new & better one. ;-) We're 800 ft. too far from the tower for DSL &
cable costs a MINT....<sigh>
Anyway, I've caught up w/ emails (>100. but <150)...and have been
following your Genetic testing string w/ much interest.
Briefly, my mother's family of CARDEN's supposedly came into this state
(AL) from SC(TN?) by 1816, which pre-dates the formation of the state by
abt. 3 years. At that time Alabama was known as Miss.Terr. and the stampede
to settle this land, newly freed from Indian control by Gen. Andrew Jackson,
was on. His soldiers had recognized its woodland beauty and the richness of
the soil, went home and got their families, told others about it and came
back. This huge migration came to be called "Alabama Fever", involving many
settlers, but foremost among them were Jackson's Tennesseans...and many
settlers from SC are on the early censes as well.
Before before that SC(and briefly TN?) had been our CARDEN family's home.
Before that (around 1800) England(Wales?). Family legend has our James
Carden's father (name unk.) mentioned as a Welch Shakespearean actor who,
down on his luck, came to America to settle in SC with relatives. There's a
long progressive story after that...
Recently Beth McD. and I've been trying to make a connection w/ her TN
branch
of Carden's... So far, nothing concrete.
Records & family legend have my James Carden (b- abt. 1790, Eng(Wales?).
He
mar. Mary Nell "Poly" LYON in Marengo (now Greene Co), AL in 1816.
Daughter Stacey was born in 1817(some rec.say TN & others say AL). By 1821
my 2G-G.F.- James Harvey Reuben Carden was born either in Greene or Lawrence
Co, AL. By 1830 the CARDEN & LYON families had moved w/ some STINSON's to
Shelby Co, AL...and finally settled there. James and Polly were dead by
1830 (some epidemic?). Shelby Co, AL Orphan Court records state that John
LYON & wife were given custody of 5 of their grand children.
If you see a connection or want to look at my GEDCOM & pix---they're
posted
at Trish & Thor CARDEN's site ---
