Hi, listers!
There having been very little on the list recently, here are some odds and
ends to let you know the non-USA lot are still alive and fascinated with
Carden ancestry.
I have nearly completed a massive chapter on the Cardens of East Kent,
including the Cardens of Sheppey and the Cardens of Chislet, with the help
particularly of Joan Carden of Spain, Ron Carden of Ashford, and Jane Rankin
of Australia, all three of whom were at the Carden Gathering in Cheshire in
1998 as some of you will remember. A few copies of the 60-page Report on the
Gathering are still available.
I have also nearly completed a chapter, full of illustrations, on the Cardens
of Worcester, where Thomas Carden was elected mayor in 1790, with the help of
Dr Olive Sharp, who was also at the Gathering.
As a great breakthrough we have established that Maria Hevenor (nee Carden),
ancestor of Dave Carden Larkin of Massachusetts, was a menber of the Irish
"Killard" branch of the family.
Kay Vinson of the Australian Roseville Branch (descended from the Sussex
family) is currently in Europe, and she has been able to visit the Carden
Arms pub in Cheshire and the church full of Cawarden tombs in Mavesyn Ridware.
Jo Challis of Australia, a new contact from the Romsey branch, is also
currently in England, and will visit Romsey to get an idea of how her
ancestors lived.
If any of you would like information on these or any other of the branches on
this side of the pond, just ask!
Arthur Carden.
