Hi all,
A light hearted storey about Carden inventions.
My father Harry Carden, born Ipswich,Suffolk,England in 1927,died
Croydon,Surrey 1996.
He was conscipted into the army in 1944 at the tender age of 17 and did his
training and
then was sent to his regiment in North Africa. On his way out there he paled
up with
another young soldier called Sammy Lloyd. Their regiment was the Sherwood
Foresters
, You American cousins would call them mobile infantry.
After they were shown their billet they went with the sergeant
for their work
assignment. He told them he had just received a vehicle that was just for
them only
And as it was so special that the army had put their names on it. When he
showed them
the vehicle outside the whole platoon was there laughing. There stood a
Carden/Loyd
Bren gun carrier. My father and his friend sammy spent their 3 years
together in the army
As drivers of the carden/loyd carrier.
As a child my father always told me he had his own tank in the war
with his name on it.
regards,
Terry Carden.
