I don't believe it, martha! In 1850 the only states with a significant
density of Cardens were Kentucky and Georgia! (Not absolutely sure about
Kentucky - my atlas is not handy and never having been there I may have got
the shape wrong).

It's not a perfect process, but is interesting in that it's interactive

of time bet. 1850-1990. When you've selected the surname to use, the

changes abt. every 5 sec. according to when the selected surname was
most
prominently in use in the U.S. Census.
