Chuck,
Guess I made the 'big boo-boo' huh? You're so tactful and nice <s>.
Thanks for the correction...
Now that I look @ my notes, I don't see where there's any
actual proof of Robert Carden, who mar. Nancy Haynes, being
the s/o Robert Carden who mar. Elizabeth Robards.
I should've stopped at saying that Charles M. Carden was the
s/o Robert Carden who mar. Nancy Haynes. Some of his Shelby
Co,AL descendants have that proof. They had sons w/ both
James & Robert names, at least it showed in the census of
1820 that he did.
That the oldest Robert (Mary Tuggle/Elizabeth Robards
spouse) had the Robert James (or James Robert) name isn't
really known, and should've been in parentheses. When I
theorize, I usually remember to use a parenthsis, bur forgot
to include it in the email to the list.
Hope I haven't goofed too badly... there are so many James,
Roberts, Reubens & Leonards that I can get really tangled up
in those Carden's sometimes. It's about like my LYONS...
there's a John LYON in every gen. from 1600 forward until today.
Thankfully most of them point the way to my line!
Martha

Martha,
Robert (James) Carden (by his 1st wife, Mary Tuggle) is my 4th great
grandfather. I have never seen any concrete proof that he had a son by the
name of Robert by his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Robards. He did have 11 children,
of which almost all went to Tennessee. Robert is supposed to have died in TN
about 1848.
I agree with you that there was a Robert Carden that married Nancy Haynes
and that that Robert is supposed to have been born in Powhatan County, VA.
However, I've never found proof, or anything that mentioned that Robert and
Elizabeth were his parents.
Also, I have never seen James given as his middle name. Would appreciate
anything you have to help me establish this.
Thanks,
Chuck Carden

Keep in mind that Charles M. Carden (b.1804) was a son of
James Robert Carden, III (b.1776) and Nancy Haynes, who came
to Shelby Co.,AL by the 1820 census from the Elbert Co,GA
area where she was born. He was born in Powhatan Co,VA to
Robert James Carden, II (b.1740) and Elizabeth Robards
(Roberts?) of Goochland Co,VA.
These you mention are the children, g.children, etc. of
Charles M. Carden...
not my direct line, but I keep up w/ them bc/ these folks who
settled Spring Creek area of Shelby were of SOME kinship to my
CARDEN's who settled in Yellow Leaf, Columbiana and Spearman's
dist. of Shelby Co. ... but I just haven't been able to make
the definite connection, yet. Grandaddy Carden (R.G.) always
SAID they were 'kinfolks'...<s>.

Hi! I scrolled through Trish's webpage. (You did good!) There's a lot of
stuff there. I'm going to try to explain this without confusing anybody,
which I probably can't do because I'm confusing myself LOL.
On that census page, I saw a "Jasper N. Carden, Spring Creek, Shelby, AL,
abt. 1861, Brother"
How do I find out who the rest of his family were? The reason I ask is
because my grandma had a brother Jasper N. Carden b. abt 1905 (son of Doctor
Franklin Carden & Nancy E. Hicks). Doctor F. had a brother Jasper Newton
Carden, b. Sep. 7, 1858. (Their parents were Jasper Floyd Carden and Annie
Ware).
I appreciate any help, tips, etc, you can give me.
Kathy
