Hi there..
Some researchers say that the Leonard you are talking about as a son of James and
Elizabeth( Fuller) ,was Leonard Ansel b abt 1798 in NC and died before 8 May 1856 in
Jackson Co. Ala...is this the one you are talking about ? I understand this may be in
dispute.( no mention of Coffee Co.) Leonard Ansel m.Margaret" Peggy" Berry
abt.1820 in Franklin Co. TN. This is the ancestor of Nellie Jeffries ( I corresponded
with her in the 1990's) I was hoping she could shed some light on the Berry line since
Jordan named a son John Berry.( think this could be "Bethie's" maiden name)
.Nellie wasn't able to help me other than she said ALL Cardens are related..I'm
beginning to think so.=)
I mentioned the Leonard in Greene Co. to you about a year ago and confess I haven't
done any further research on it. I found the following in the reference cited:
Marriage, Deaths and Legal Notices from Early Alabama Newspapers 1819-
1893 by Pauline Jones Ganrud,p11
Notice was from "Halcyon"published every Thursday at Greensborough,Greene County
Alabama( Greensborough now in Hale county)
2 Oct 1823 J.M.Bates ,adm of the estate of Leonard Carden, deceased.
I didn't look into this at the time as I thought that the Leonard I was looking for is
the one in Monroe County Tn.
The time frame is right for your line???
Does anyone know anything about this Leonard?
I'll be in touch after I check into my research notes.

Just by process of elimination, working thru the possible candidates
for my
3rd Gr.G.father
Carden... the Leonard Carden, son of James Carden(b.1750) & Elizabeth Fuller
who were
formerly of Goochland Co,VA, then Orange Co,NC, then Staptanburg Co,SC, then
finally Coffee
Co,TN... he's a plausible candidate. IDK much abt. him right now and can't
find anyone who
does yet. IDK his DOB.. do you know any more of him?
Is it him you mean, or another Leonard? There are so many w/ same given
names that I have
to go by who the wife or mother was to keep them separate !
I know Lawrence is out of the way of the seemingly normal migration from SC,
if the settlers
came into the state from GA; but not always so if they came directly from SC
to Madison Co.
(Huntsville), then over to Lawrence Co. Indian presence might've been the
reason for this.
Huntsville was the only 'civilized' area of AL bf/ statehood, in N. AL
anyway. My John WILDER
& Uriah JORDAN (4th Gr.G.fathers) were both in Madison Co. on the
pre-statehood (MS Terr.)
tax census of 1809-1812. Maybe settlers who went west from Huntsville, and
those who went
more south & east were of two different minds abt. where to settle.
Do you have THRASHER's in Shelby or Jefferson Co,AL? I have some in my
ADAMS & SHAW lines
there.

Hi Martha,
My study of the migration patterns of SC settlers has shown some interesting
things as far as my family members go.
My Allred,Warren ,Thrasher,Cauthon families left Spartenburg early and went
to Franklin county, Ga along with several other SC families.(Cauthens are
there by 1803) Franklin was formed in 1784.I didn't find Jordan there.
Blount Co. Al was also settled by early pioneers from SC and it is right
next to St.Clair ( as you know) Guess I should check for Jordan there.
I never have checked Lawrence Co as it seemed out of the line of
migration...however it is plausible if Jordan dropped down out of Tn.( from
Giles??? remember that Larkin is there by 1809) thence into Lawrence before
ending up in St.Clair.
JHR sure fits into the time frame for a nephew of Jordan !! I'm thinking it
would be a Leonard Carden. What do you think ?
