Subject: [CARDEN-L] Cardens of Co. Mayo
I have had two Carden enquiries. A lady who saw my name on a Liverpool
list wrote to say she was looking into her mother's family history, her
mother being Ann Carden, born 1926. This was simple to sort out as I
discovered her mother was first cousin to my husband Fred, her parents being
John Carden, born 1888 who married Mary Crummey. I was able to give her
the family history (as far as we know it) back to Thomas Carden and Bridget
Swift from Co. Mayo who married in Liverpool in 1833.
The second enquiry was from a gentleman who I suspect may live in the USA.
He saw my name on a Co. Mayo list. I give below the information he sent me
and would be most grateful for any help at all with this one.
"Timothy Carden also known as Thaddeus (according to Griffith validation)
was born in Ireland County Mayo around 1821. He later married Ann Missett
around 1844. I have no information on Timothy but on Ann I have the
following: Ann Missett daughter of John Missett and Mary Burke (Bourke).
Mary Burke was born August 10, 1796 in Templemary Co. Mayo.
Timothy and Ann had a son John Carden born around 1847. They also had a
daughter Mary Carden born around 1848. I have no records for either birth.
According to the Richard Cobden Ships Manifest they left from Liverpool,
England, with two children, and arrived in New York March 7, 1847. They
boarded the vessel DEC 1846. John died from the measles on Feb 21, 1849
aged 2. "
This is the second time I have come across the name "Missett". I have a
Catherine Carden who married a Richard Missett in Liverpool in 1849. Just
coincidence?
Great job done by Chuck and Beth with their census information. Who knows,
one day we may find a link to you.
Best wishes to all,
Lynn Bateman
