The 1867 Personal Property tax of Albemarle Va. shows 3 African-Americans with the surname
"Thomasson" are at Levy's (being Monticello or the Washinton farm). By the
1870 census they go by the surname "Thomas". One of the 3 guys gets married post
civil war and names his mother as "Franky". It turns out that Sarah Thomasson
widow of Byers left a Rev. War pension application and a list of slaves headed by
"Franky" and the children below her are the same 3 names at Monticello in 1867.
Turns out two children of this Sarah married Cardens being children of Youen Carden. The
Monticello website has Youen Carden working for Thomas Jefferson 1808-1828. Wm F. Carden
(son of Youen m. Catharine Thomasson in 1821, and John Thomasson m. ---- Carden I believe
it was 1821 also.
