I promised to comment on the Carden-Minchin connection.
Minchin was an important Anglo-Irish family and doubtless appears in Burke's
Irish families (my copy is still packed). John Carden of Tipperary married
Rebecca Minchin in 1717, and named one of his sons Minchin Carden. The
latter's descendants still use Minchin as a middle name to this day (Cardens
of Fishmoyne).
Humphrey Minchin Carden, born about 1850, perhaps in Ireland, appears to have
been listed as missing at sea some time before 1874. He belonged to the
family now written-up as "Benjamin of Cork." All known members of the family
live in Australia.
There is a Minchin One Name Society listed in the 2000 GRD as follows.

Hope this is useful, at least to Dave Carden Collins. Anyone else know of
any Carden-Minchin connections?
