Subject: [CARDEN-L] A fascinating DNA result for Mayo-Sligo
This morning I heard from Gerard Carden of Glasgow, whose ancestors
lived
in
Co Sligo, Ireland.
It is a fascinating result. It differs from the seven identical Cheshire
Group results only in respect of one of the ten markers (DYS 390), but
shows
21 repeats for this marker instead of 24. Oxford Ancestors say a
difference
of 2 repeats in a single marker is commonly caused by a single
mutation.
Their comments on a difference of 3 have been requested. Subject to this,
a
preliminary conclusion must be that the May-Sligo Cardens are the
descendants
of a Cheshire Carden who emigrated to Ireland many years before the
one
who
emigrated in about 1655 and founded the Cardens of Tipperary.
It also suggests that Thor, who has 23 repeats for this same marker, may
come
from the May-Sligo Group rather than directly from the Cheshire
Cardens
who
remained in England.
I will soon send Trish the details to up-date the report on her web site,
but
could not resist sharing this result with you immediately!
