An important message from Arthur Carden of Horsham, England ...
CARDEN DNA PROJECT
A visit to
http://www.lightpatch.com/genealogy/cardendnaproject/ will
take you to my May 2003 report on this exciting project, which has
produced some fascinating results. By that date results were available
from nearly 40 participants from all over the world, a surprisingly
large number of which were nearly identical and showed that most of us
are descended from a family in Cheshire which adopted the name 'Carden'
in the twelfth century or before. I am deeply ashamed that I have not
issued a more recent report, though more participants have joined since
then. There are now over 60, allowing many interesting genealogical
deductions to be made. A complete set of results is available from me.
Anyone interested in looking at this complete set, in finding out more
about the project, or (if male, with the Carden or a similar surname
such as Calladine) in supplying a sample for analysis, should contact me
at the internet address below.

CARDEN GATHERING
in Brighton, England, on 12/13/14 September 2008
I have recently sent the following postcard to about 500 members of the
Carden family with whom I have corresponded in the past few years.
CARDEN GATHERING 2008
It is nearly ten years since the first Carden Gathering was held in
1998. A second is now being planned, to be held near Brighton, England,
in 2008, on September 12/13/14, probably with visits to Carden sites in
Cheshire and Staffordshire on September 16/17. If there is a possibility
that you might attend the Gathering, then please notify Richard Carden
at gathering(a)racarden.org.uk telling him your postal address and how
many people there might be in your party. Those who attended the 1998
Carden Gathering will remember Richard. Please also inform all your
relatives.
- As far as possible Richard will communicate with everyone by email. If
you are not on the internet, please arrange for someone to reply by
email on your behalf. Failing that, as a last resort, please write to
him at Chapel Farm, Denton, Harleston, Norfolk IP20 0AW, United Kingdom.
- This advance notice is to enable those overseas to plan a trip
to England and enable us to get an idea of the numbers likely to come.
Please reply without delay. In due course Richard will send you the
draft programme and ask you for your suggestions. Meanwhile you might
like to visit my blog
-
http://cardenhistory.blogspot.com/
- This is where the latest arrangements appear.
From the response so far it appears likely that there will be plenty
of
people coming from USA (and elsewhere), and it is hoped that talks can
be given about USA branches and their links to immigrants from England,
the Carden DNA project, variants of the Carden name and other matters
likely to be of interest to you. I hope very much that many of you will
decide to make this an excuse for a visit to Europe!
