I'm so thrilled! My sister and I have just started researching Carden
and were really getting discouraged.
Our line of Cardens evidently entered in Georgia in the early 1800's.
So far we know that Randolph Carden (m. Elizabeth Thompson) came into
Russell co. Ala. about 1839 from Georgia. Their son, James Matthew m,
Edna Ann Frances Chadwick. One of James's
sons was Joseph Edward Carden m. Annie Louise Rix in Tallapoosa Co.
Ala. He was our grandfather, and they came to Tyler, Texas in 1893, when
my father, Marceilles C. Carden was one year old. I'm the youngest of
three children of M.C. Carden and Gladys Shumate and I'm 66, so we need
to hurry!
Our grandfather never said anything to us kids about his family in Ala.,
but my father said that his grandfather was a highlander (Hollander?)
and that his grandmother was one of five Chadwick sisters from
Manchester, England.
As you see, we have not had much to go on and many records in that part
of the country were destroyed after or during the Civil War.
I have to leave for several days because of illness in the family, but
will try to contribute more soon. Thanks so much . It's wonderful to
find all these Cardens in the world after all this time.
My love to all of you! Martha Carden Maxwell
