Subject: Re: [CARDEN] Laodocea / Laodicea
Martha... Jack...
Of course we know that the name Laodicea (there are several variations on
the spelling, and the nickname "Dicey" is derived from the last syllable) is
biblical. It is the seventh city spoken of in John's revelation (not too
kindly at that). The name in the Gr. comes from (laos) people, and (dikiea)
justice(?), thus "justice of the people".
Scanning through my listings I found four individuals with this name or
derivation thereof... there may be more...
Leodicea (Dicey) b. 1747/1748
dau. of Robert Carden and Phyllis Wilbank and sister of Larkin Carden, Sr.
Leodicea no birth date
dau. of Larkin Carden, Sr. (SC) and sister to Larkin Carden, Jr. (ended up
in Giles Co. TN)
"Dicey" b. 1788 (most likely Laodicea)
dau. of Robert Carden (possibly a brother of the Dicey b. 1747/8) and
Elizabeth Robards
Leodicea b. 10/01/1814 d. 1904 (Giles Co. TN)
dau. of Larkin Carden, Jr. and Rosannah (unknown)
This is from my early research and may not be accurate, but it shows the use
of the name in this line of the family.
Thought I would throw this in the mix.
Leland Thornburg Carden, Jr.
