Hello fellow researchers. I am sure that by now I have lost credibility with
those who have posted queries about the reunion in September. The fact of
the matter is that for the last six months I have been working diligently to
start up a catering business and that has taken a lot of my time. As of today I
am STILL waiting on an engineer to complete drawings that I can submit to our
county so I can get bids on the plumbing, etc. that has to be done in order to
be in compliance with the International Builders' Code that went into effect
in January. No one at the state level in NC seems to know how to interpret
the parts of this code that affect my business. For those of who have never
been involved in food service, we chefs are in a very narrow window, that is to
say, that everything and nothing seems to apply to us so we never know if what
we want to do will be acceptable to everyone in inspections, etc. Back in
May I thought that there would be a good chance that I would be up and running
by the middle of July but now I am not so sure. I have been fortunate in
finding a partner with working capital but her husband's patience is beginning to
wear thin as is mine because even though I have been very busy with this,
actual progress has been slow to say the least.
I have talked with my husband and at this point in time, I just do not see
how we can now host the reunion this year with all I have going on with this
business. I cannot apologize enough for making all of you nice people wait for a
response from me. I was really looking forward to meeting all of the listers
in person finally but this business has to be my top priority at this point
especially since I have invested so much time and money to get it started and
have been without a paycheck since the second week in January.
I hope that each and every one of you will not think badly of me as I kept
thinking each week that maybe within two weeks we would be remodeling, etc.
Perhaps in 2004, I will be in a postition to plan a proper get-together and we
can try again.
Sincerely, Cheryl Staley Carden
