Message Board Post:
I am trying to trace my ancestor, John Carden (also spelled "Cardin"), but as he
was in the military and moved around a bit, it's proving to be rather difficult.
He was married to a widow named Lucy Foster (m.s. Fryett) in 1812 in Woodbridge, Suffolk,
England. John was supposedly from Woodbridge. He belonged to the Royal Horse Artillery
and was a corporal at the time of his third child's birth in 1818. His first child,
John, was born in Woodbridge, Suffolk in 1812; his second child, Matilda, was born in
Christchurch, Hampshire in 1815; his third child, James, was born in Dublin, Ireland in
1818.
I have not been able to find any records for John (the father) in Woodbridge, which makes
me wonder if he was born elsewhere and was merely settled in Woodbridge for a time.
I would like to find out where and when John Carden was born and who his parents were.
Family stories say the family was Welsh, but I can't find any evidence of this (it may
be a clue, though). If anyone can help me out with this, I'd be grateful!
