Good Evening All! Just had to drop in a line or two...my two cents worth
about the quietness of the list lately.
For my part...I came up against a stone wall that several others seem to
have reached as well...so my Cardon/en searching has been on hold for a bit.
Combine that with the fact that we had several other brick walls come
tumbling down recently and have been hot on the trail of those lines....and
you have the reason for my lack of chatter!
I do read each and every digest mailing that comes my way...I have been
keeping up with all the latest ...but have no information to add at present.
Am going to ask again if anyone out there has information on our Carden
brick wall, namely one Joseph CARDEN, born 1755 in Virginia. His wife was
Mary...as listed in his will. They were married about 1775. Joseph served in
Capt. John Gilmore's company in Rockbridge County, Virginia, June 11, 1779.
Joseph is listed in Botetourt County, Virginia in 1800. 1803 land records
show that he owned 46 acres on Craig's Creek. In 1816, Joseph is still
listed in land records. His will is dated June 2, 1817 and shows being
probated April 21, 1818 in Monroe County, West Virginia, which I understand
was formerly a part of Virginia.
Joseph Carden and Mary had ten children, as follows:
Issac
John L.
Rachel
Mary
Allen Dickerson
Robert D. (possibly DePriest)
Joseph W.
Nancy
Elizabeth
Jane
I have a good deal of information regarding these children...my own
ancestor, Joseph W., and others also.
If anyone has information regarding Joseph Carden's ancestors...I would
appreciate hearing from you.
Very willing to share all information regarding related lines of Ashworth,
Battles, Kenner, McSpadden, Smith.
Regards all...and will be keeping in touch...happy hunting!
Cathy Thompson
