Hi all,
Hopefully Bill, Stephen & Jeremy's posts are familiar to some on the
list and they will find a few answers to their Carden 'questions' ! To
aid in this 'quest', it would be good for the rest of us to be able to
see some pix of you &/or your ancestors...even recent ones of yourselves
! If you haven't posted to Trish's really nice web-site pages yet, it
would be GREAT if you would think about doing so.
The pix posted there are taking on the appearance of becoming a real
'digital' family album. I'm not sure how others feel, but to me it's
really 'neat' (oops... I'm dating myself!) to see those pix, and then to
read the family 'stories' posted here on the list. Somehow this seems to
be bringing the searches for our Carden 'roots' up to a really personal
level!
Cheers, Martha

Still looking for my ancestor's parents. I finally got a subscription to
Ancestry Family Tree, but that really hasn't helped in this particular
search. I found his burial place while digging through Polk County, TN
records, though, and I didn't have that. If I post what I have, maybe
someone will see a direction I should go (hey, I'm hoping anyway).
JASPER FLOYD CARDEN was born Jul 28, 1828 in TN, and died Feb 16, 1903
in Polk County, TN. He married (1) ANNIE WARE Jun 20, 1850 in Murray
County, GA. She was born 1828 in SC, and died in Harriman, Roane
County, TN. He married (2) ELIZABETH SHELL Jan 09, 1868 in Bradley
County, TN, daughter of BENJAMIN SHELL. She was born Feb 20, 1836 in
TN, and died Apr 15, 1932 in Plainsville, GA.

According to Robert B. Barker Civil War Papers, J.F. Carden went by the
name Floyd.
Carden, Jasper F. (Floyd): : Pvt., Co. E, Tenth TN Cav., Union Army Vol.
from Feb 9, 1862 to Aug. 1, 1865. He lived Mecca, McMinn Co., Servilla,
Polk County, TN. Filed claim September 24, 1883 and said he was born
July 28, 1828. Pension approved for $2 per month from Sept. 24, 1883; $6
from Nov. 30, 1887 and $12 from Dec. 24, 1890. He died February 16,
1903. It appears that Jasper F. Carden first married Annie Ware before
the war and that she died at Harriman, Roane County, TN during the war.
He then married Elizabeth Shell Newman in Bradley Co., TN January 9,
1868. Elizabeth Shell appears to have been born Feb. 20, 1836 and
married Thomas Newman in Meigs Co., TN in 1853. Tom Newman obtained a
divorce from his wife, Elizabeth, in Chancery court of Meigs Co. in
1866.
