Does anyone have any information on ancestors or descendant of this
William Carden in Jasper Co., that was issued a land grant in 1799??
I think there may be connection between William and John Carden of
Goochland Co., VA that moved to Pike Co. I know John had two children
who married in Jasper Co., in 1814 and 1815. I also, know there was a
marriage of Ally Carden born in 1795 married to Nathan Moffat that was
either performed or witnessed by David Carden. I think David is the
...
Minor correction, Ally CARDEN marriage was performed by a John Hill, JP.
Based on some information that Chuck Carden sent me back in '96, William
and two brothers, John and Charles, were sons of a William CARDEN who
died in Wake Co NC.
John and William appear in the 1798 tax digest of Oglethorpe Co.
Charles appears in the 1801 tax digest of Lincoln Co. I'll have to
double check, but I vaguely recall that Charles is on the list next to
either Thomas MOFFETT or James MOFFETT.
A James GOOLSBY married Elizabeth CARDEN in Oglethorpe Co GA in 1797.
William CARDEN died in 1824 in Jasper Co. The estate was administered
by James CARDEN and James GOOLSBY.
In the 1840 census of Henry Co GA Nathan MOFFETT is on the same page
with a James CARDEN.
Ally CARDEN and Nathan MOFFETT named their first son William. The name
'William' did not come from the MOFFETT side of the family.
