This is a note to me from Linda Aaron, a HAYNES-CARDIN(EN) descendant,
who lives in GA.
She has some interesting information and I thought that some of you
might know the answer(s) to her questions.
This isn't my direct line, but I'm fairly sure it's a collateral one in
Shelby Co, AL, with ties back to Elbert Co,GA.

Martha,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you about the Cardens. I just
recently went 1/2 time at Univ of Ga Library after doing over 20 years
there and am working on a project in N. GA Mts., so I am on the road a
lot.
Anyway, the Cardens have been an interesting problem and I need someone
from either line to help me out! Here is what I know, basically, & I
have proof for most of it.
Moses Haynes arrived in Ga in 1791, Elbert Co, just after it was created
in 1790. He had several children who appear to be grown, among whom are
Sarah Haynes who m Charles Cardin and Nancy Haynes who m Robert Cardin.
Moses dies in 1829 and both girls are in the will as is Charles and two
Cardin grandchildren, Moses and Jane [they are not connected in the will
or the admin. to either Cardin family, so this is one problem]. This
Moses Cardin stays in Ga and from the 1850 census he would have been b
about 1806. Jane marries 1828 in Elbert Co to Simeon Glenn. I know a
good bit about Moses Cardin, not much about Jane Cardin Glenn.
The only clue that Moses and Jane might belong to Sarah and Charles is
the way Moses Haynes' will reads - it goes from Sarah and Charles right
into Moses and Jane. I know that Nancy is dead by 1832 as a letter of
administration is granted her brother, Thomas Haynes in May term of
court in Elbert Co p.80 -Minutes of the Inferior Court- which states
that Nancy, wife of Robert Cardin, formerly dau. of Moses Haynes, Dec'd,
late of Shelby Co, Ala.
I know nothing else about her, no children, have no marriage to Robert
etc. Sarah's husband, Charles, signs for her share of her father's
estate but she is dead soon after.
Another problem: If you look at the census records Charles is in Ga and
Ala ones in 1830; and by 1840 he has a male in the 10-15 category, a
male in 20-30 and one in 30-40. Charles should be the 30-40 one. By
1850 there is the oldest child, William, who is 20 years old. Could he
be Sarah's?
It's also odd that the next child is named Sarah but she is likely
Winny's child. The bottom line is that some of you with Cardin ancestors
may actually be descendents of Sarah Haynes and have Cardin cousins in
Ga if they are related to Moses and Jane Cardin.
I don't know anything about Robert and Charles to speak of - there are
Cardins in Oglethorpe and Wilkes Co early on and one who is a Rev.
soldier in Wilkes. So if you can add to this info or need things I have,
I will surely share.
My mother was a Haynes, also from Elbert Co, so I have a lot of Haynes
info. I am the 6th generation from Moses. I have some friends in
Haleyville, AL with loads of Elbert Co lines and I go there some and
they come here some - I've spent a lot of time in the Birmingham library
and took a genealogy course at Samford last year. I'm going to National
Gen Soc meeting in Nashville in June rather than going to Samford again
this year.
