Greetings listers! Have been offline for quite some time and just got caught
up on many emails that had come in. I read with interest the speculation
about Christopher Columbus Carden.
There may well have been more than one...but the Christopher Columbus Carden
buried in Alabama does not sound like the one you are looking for.
The C.C. Carden buried in Alabama was the son of Joseph W. Carden and
Judith Kenner. He was born in Hawkins County Tennessee, Nov. 30, 1813, and
married Rebecca Kenner. There is a lot of information about him on our web
site listed below and I will gladly communicate any research we have done
with anyone interested. There are several pictures of his headstone on the
web site also.
Christopher and Rebecca had 6 known children...Hugh Walker (my
gr.grandfather), Harriet A., Josephine (also buried near C.C. and Rebecca),
Laura S., Sallie (Sarah) Carol, and Daniel. Rebecca's parents were Winder
Kenner and Mary Elizabeth Davis.
Please get in touch if I can be of any further help.

My great aunt was Callie Rose Hawkins. She married C.C. Carden. They
are
both buried in Gunnings Cemetery in Sullivan County. I have been looking
for
information on them. Does that ring any bells with the information
you
have
on the Cardens of Sullivan County?
They had children Albert L. Carden, Robert Taylor Carden, Cecil Mae
Carden,
Cordie Carden and Edith Carden. Robert was born and died in 1915,
Albert
was
born in 1924 and died in 1942, Cecil Mae was born in 1917 and died in
1918.
It is thought that C.C. Carden is Christopher Columbus but I have no
proof.
I do know that he was supposed to have been born in Wilkes County,
N.C.
They
are reported to have lived in Carden Hollow along with the Hawkins
family.
Carden Hollow is outside Blountville, Tn. and is in Sullivan County. All
the
information I have is sketchy recollections by relatives that are
very old
or have already died. You can contact me directly at
fhawkins(a)preferred.com
if you think we might have common ground.
