All that I know from the census is that in 1850, James CARDEN was the
head
of household #821 recorded on page 69 of the census, 7 October 1850.
Since this was the only CARDEN household in Sullivan County, it would seem
likely that Carden Hollow was named after him and/or his descendants, but
I don't know that for sure. I don't have the later Sullivan County
censuses, so I can't look up any later CARDEN families there.
