Phil, Reuben moved his family to Murray County Ga. after the 1850 Polk Co. census. why, i
do not know. they were there until at least the 1870 census. where John married his first
2 wives. i lose tract of him after 1875 until they show up in DeKalb Co. Alabama about the
1890's where my g-grandfather James Polk Carden married Martha Bouldin. from there the
family moved to Marion County Al. in the later 1890's , most of the family stayed ,
others moved on as families have a way of doing.
my family lore is that Reuben's wife , Rachel was full blood Indian although we have
no proof, we have not been able to find a last name for her. i have wondered if this had
anything to do with them moving into Murray Co. , though there were some Cardens already
there. i suppose it is possbile that Reuben's brother , Larkin, could have married
Reuben and Rachel as Larkin was a justice of the peace for many years , although i do not
know when he started doing that.
Reuben and Rachel's first child, was born abt. 1831-33. Sarah married William L. Carr.
i have no idea about the land sell , it would interesting if someone could find out. maybe
one of these days i will get up into Tennessee and do some serious research, as i have
been wanting to do for a long time, but work keeps me pretty close to home, hard to do
much on weekends when most places are closed.

My thanks to you and Chuck Carden for sending this data to me. I do wonder,
however, the outcome of the court case mentioned above. Was the land
successfully sold, and to whom?
Interestingly, my Ledford and Prince ancestors, William Prince and Ephraim
Ledford, were both enumerated with their families in the 1850 census of Murray
county Georgia. I see that some Carden families were there at one time, also.
My direct Ledford line resided in Murray county until the Civil War ended.
They are enumerated in the 1870 census of Monroe county Tennessee. This gives
me a broader insight into the movements of my Ledford line, as the Carden and
Clowers line already resided in Monroe County.
