Did anyone see the History Channel's offering this week of the search
for the Lost Squadron?
One of the main 'players' in the search was a BOB CARDIN, maybe from KY,
I'm not sure it was stated.
The legend goes...
"On July 15th, 1942, a squadron of two B-17 bombers and six P-38
fighters bound for Iceland crash-landed in Greenland after getting lost
in a blizzard. The crews were rescued, but the planes remained,
eventually entering aviation lore as the 'Lost Squadron'... "
In 1981 several men from Atlanta, GA chose to begin the search for these
6 planes. One of them a P-38 was finally found and restored. For 20
years this valiant effort consumed the lives of these men and others.
One of them (a pilot) named Bob Cardin played a key role in this search.
I was struck when seeing this documentary at how much this Bob Cardin
resembled some of the pictures sent in by many of us of our various
CARDENIN/CARDEN men and which are so generously displayed on Trish's
site for all of us to see.
So, I was wondering if anyone on this list knows of this particular Bob
Cardin and maybe something of his family background? I beleive that
History Channel has this offering at the following link:

Hoping to hear from some of you on this... Martha
