Byron,
There are a few similarities in our respective Carden naming conventions.
My maternal 2GR-G.F. was James (Harvey) REUBEN CARDEN/IN (1821, AL-1899, AL). I've often wondered if his father's given name was James, and his grandfather's name Reuben, but we don't know as his parents died when he and his sister Stacy were very young.
All that we know about their father's place of birth is from the 1880 census, where Harvey Carden gives it as NC. Their mother's family was in Laurens Co,SC from before the Rev. On her tombstone in LA, where she lived as an adult, Stacy's children inscribe the state of her birth as TN.
Any thoughts or comments...?
Thanks, Martha
Beverly,
I meant to send this to the entire group.
Norman Carden, was the brother to my GGGrandfather, Owen Hendrix Carden.
Edward Nolen, was his son.
I don't know how they tie into the Clark or Truitt families.
Norman, is buried in LaGrange, Ga.
If I can help anymore, let me know.
Becky Carden

As many of you are aware, those of us who have been researching Ansel Carden’s (b. 1798) line have had a difficult time determining whom his father was. I believe that a strong case can be made that his father was the Reuben who married Stacy Bowen and died abt 1861 in the Orange Co. NC Poor house who is the father of Presley and Wesley (both b. 1815) and I would be happy to share the supporting evidence with anyone who may be interested–please post another query to this list and I’ll respond.
However, Reuben poses a perplexing problem as well–there are at least 4 in this line who lived during the 18th century and of these, I believe that two could possibly be my Ansel’s father. In looking at several discussions on this and other websites, as well as other evidence, it is obvious that there are two schools of thought as to exactly where this Reuben fits into the line. Some people believe that this Reuben was born in 1756 to (John b. 1731) and that he was over 100 when he died in the NC Poor house. Others argue that Reuben was actually the son of another John (b. 1740 who was married to Mary Suggs.) In either case this Reuben was a direct descendent of Robert b. 1630.
The fact that most people agree that both of these John Cardens had sons named Reuben does not help clear up the confusion. Can anyone confirm which John Carden was actually the father of the Reuben who died in the NC poor house? Thanks everyone for your responses re: Ansel, and I look forward to your posts re: the Reubens as well.
Byron
