Arthur,
I started out trying to save them all and post them to my site, but deleted
several my mistake. Sorry, I've been a little distracted. My son, Andrew
who is in our Army Reserve is being sent to the Middle East somewhere. As a
Mom, I'm proud, but uneasy and just a little distraught.
But, it is my understanding that you can browse the Carden List Archives.
You can search the archives for a specific message or browse them, going
from one message to another. Go to the website below. At the bottom of the
page you will see 2 links.

If I get time I will try and go back through all of the Roll Calls and add
them to my webpage.

Subject: [Carden] ROLL CALL - saving the info
Is anyone saving all this ROLL CALL stuff?
Since I started the ball rolling this time, I have been transferring all the
incoming ROLL CALL messages to a single file in Word, but if anyone else is
doing so and will put it on their web site in due course, I'd like to avoid
the bother!
Trish? Ron? Alternatively I could keep up the effort myself and in due
course send one of you my file.
Any ideas?

skipper of a large yacht owned by my relatives called Badcock there.
Do you two know each other? You are both interested in Carden family
history. Art, have you heard of the Badcock Furniture Corporation? Mark,
what news?

Subject: Re: Updated Carden Information
Hi Art,
Thanks for getting in touch. I have added the information you gave me to my file and am glad to have it. I don't know anyone who is researching the Hill family, per se, but it's interesting to note that my uncle married Nancy Hill, daughter of Ophelia Hill from Manchester, Coffee Co., TN. I know there were a lot of Hills in Coffee Co. If you had the names of Cora's parents, I might be able to find some information in the Coffee Co. books that I have here.
Beth
Dear Beth:
We have spoken before. My sister Eleanor Carden Guetzloe is working on some really really good information in regard to my "roots" which follow -
Great Grandfather-William Goldman Carden
Great Grandmother-Lurena Bell Slover
Grandfather-Rufus Hayes Carden
Grandmother-Cora Hill
My Father-Orelan Ralph Carden
My Mother -Nell (NMN) Waters
The information that I would like to provide will greatly update ID #'s-
I2416, I0818, and I2427 ...ENTRIES--4173.... and likely help me greatly "fit" into this puzzle.
I still get a bit perplexed as to why my side of the family left LaFollette Tennessee area when my Dad was maybe 6 years old (1910??)...and moved to Florida. My mother always said it was because my grandmother (Cora Hill) was ill and the medical types (I think a Carden Doctor??)...thought the Florida weather would help. But....I am working on this. 'tis amazing we had so much family left in Tenessee that my parents just never talked much about....
I would love to speak with some "roots investigators" on the Cora Hill side of my family if you know anyone...?...
I will see about sending you some really good information for your entries--4173...in regard to my family
In regard to ID: I2416 under my dad Orelan Carden...his name was Orelan Ralph Carden
birth info is correct
CHILDREN
1. Eleanor Jane Carden - Guetzloe (married to Bruce Alan Guetzloe)
2. Orelan Ralph Carden, Jr.
3. James David Carden born- 03 JAN 1938 in Tampa, Fl - deceased
4. Arthur Bruce Carden born- 03 JAN 1944 in Tampa Fl
More to follow, hope you can use the info to update the Carden Clan.

Cardens(and their allied families)who immigrated to Northeastern Pennsylvania:
Michael Carden was born in Ireland abt. 1800. He married Catherine Mittan about 1821.
Michael Carden, born Killala, County Mayo, IR; married Kate Gordon.
James Carden, born 1844 in Carbondale, PA, USA; he married Mary Barrett born 1853 in Carbondale. Mary Barrett was the daughter of Michael and Margaret Malloy Barrett, both of County Mayo. Margaret Malloy's first marriage was to a Gilboy per Barbour Family Bible. James Carden died 25 November 1902 in Carbondale, PA.
Margaret Carden was born 31 August 1866 in Carbondale,PA. She married James J. Barbour, born March 1859 in England. Margaret died in childbirth in 1886. Her Husband never remarried after the death of his young wife. Ellen Carden Tierney (Margaret's sister)and her family raised Raphael Barbour; James Barbour lived with the Tierneys upon the death of his beloved Margaret whom he grieved for until his own death in 1920. James J. Barbour's parents were James and Mary Creegan Barbour of County Sligo, IR. The Barbours settled in County Sligo abt. 1659 as disbanded Cromwellian Ironsides with land grants (these settlers were also known as adventurers).
Raphael F. Barbour was born 1886; he died 27 October 1944. He was married in 1905 to Dorothy Ursula Schimmel. She was born in Carbondale in 1888; died in 1953. Dorothy Schimmel was the daughter of Frank B. and Honora McDonough Schimmel. The McDonoughs were also from County Mayo. The Schimmels came to Rochester, NY, from the Grand Duchy of Baden, Germany. Honora McDonough met her husband at the horse races, as Mr. Schimmel was a hostler and brought his horses to Carbondale which was a popular location on the racing circuit.
James J. Barbour, born in Carbondale, PA, married Catherine A. Ditmore, Jermyn, PA. Catherine's parents were Charles and Mary Boyle Ditmore of Jermyn, PA. Charles Ditmore was a direct descendant of George Soule (Mayflower passenger); John Tripp who arrived in RI on the ship True Love in 1635; Isaac Tripp, first white settler (1763) in what is now present-day Scranton, PA; Spencers of New England who trace back to the family of the de le Spenser barons present at the signing of the Magna Carta at Runnymede; Sommers and Dittmers of Kassel, Hessen. Mary Boyle's ancestors immigrated to NE PA from County Donegal (Boyle; Dougherty) first to the Hazleton, PA area and later to Simpson, which is located right next to Carbondale. Most of them were school teachers when they arrived from IR.
Maureen D. Barbour, married Brian L. Smallacombe (1951-1986) on 3 February 1979. Brian Smallacombe's ancestors immigrated to NY and NE PA from Cornwall and Germany.
*I now have ample information on the Cardens and Barbours to forward to a professional genealogist for further research.
Reenie
Becky,
It has been a long time since I have done any research on my Carden line. After I met Mike online, I stopped doing research on the earlier years of our line. My research time has been spent on other lines since Mike has a passion for the Carden name. My Carden research has been talking to my mother and her sister, asking them for family stories, etc. My Smith relatives have told me several stories about Uncle D.J. and their Carden cousins.
I would be surprised if O.H.R. Carden wasn't connected to our line. I would think all Cardens in Pike Co. are connected, but I don't have anything to prove it. I have a Burt ancestor in GA that I can't connect to any of the Burt families in the same county, but I just know there has to be a connection. If I find any new Carden information, I promise to post it to this list.
Barbara

Mike Collins and I have the same male Carden ancestry through David Jackson Carden. I descend through D.J.'s second marriage to Opal Smith. I did most of my Carden research in the early days of this hobby/obsession, before I discovered the internet and genealogy software. I want to thank all my long distant relatives for placing information on the internet, I sure do get a kick when I stumble across those postings.
Our line could benefit from some research on the east coast. Is the U.S. Carden reunion still being planned? I have lots of time I need to use or lose at work, so a reunion/research trip "back east" sounds good as long as I have funds available.
Barbara
Hello all,
This is my ancestry as far as I know it.
John Carden m Catherine Jane Davis 11/25/1791 Goochland Co., VA. Moved to
GA circa 1800.
Andrew Jackson Carden m Adeline Crawford 3/4/1838 Pike Co., GA
Henry Carden m Marion Blisitt (sp.) unknown Alabama. This family lived in
Pike Co., GA I guess marriage was not approved so they went to AL to marry.
David Jackson Carden m Amanda Hinman 8/26/1900 Paulding Co., GA, moved to
east TX circa 1913. This family lived in W. TX and then settled in E. TX.
Dave remarried after the loss of his first wife and remarried Opal Azilee
Smith 1/19/1920 Hopkins Co., TX.
Ollie Carden m Maggie Atkins 3/15/1936 Morton Co., TX.
Joyce Carden m James Collins 11/30/1964 Wood Co., TX
Michael Collins single
I believe John Carden and Youen (sp) Carden are related there were 3 Carden-
Davis marriages in the 1790's in VA. I have not had the time to do
genealogy like I use to so I haven't got any new information to add. A note
to Arthur I am still interested in having my uncle do the DNA test. I will
make time and coordinate with you when I have time to do it. I have a lot
of information on this family if I can help anyone let me know. If you
write me please be patient on my reply.
As always,
Mike
Leland Thornburg Carden, Jr. from Tennessee, checking in for roll call.
This is my line as far back as verifiable, with questions regarding which Robert was our ancestor.
1.. Robert Carden (1767-1848) m. (1787) Locky (Sookey) Hunt( (1767-?)
(Some say his wife was Elizabeth Robards?)
VA Mecklenburg) NC (Granville County) TN (Grainger) County) ca. 1810-11
2.. Goldman Benton Carden(1) (1810-1884) m. (1835) Rosannah Monroe (1814-1891)
NC-TN (Grainger County, Anderson County)
3.. William Goldman Carden (1841-1905) m. (1867) Lourena Belle Slover (1851-1913)
TN (Grainger County, Anderson County)
4.. Goldman Benton Carden(2) (1869-1941) m. (1895) Armenda Howard Leinart (1879-1932)
TN (Anderson County) m. (1934) Charlcie Tucker)
5.. Leland Thornburg Carden, Sr. (1909-1956) m. (1934) Anna Mary Guthrie (1918-1983)
TN (Anderson County)
6.. Leland Thornburg Carden, Jr. (1938-) m. (1958) Mildred Faye Harris(1940
VA-TN (Anderson County) m. (1975) Patricia Faye Brown (1947-)
I have never been able to backtrack with any reasonable accuracy beyond Robert (1767). His father was John Cardin (Mecklenburg, VA), but could not be the John that married Anne Parker, believed by some to be the Father of this Robert. I would appreciate any new info any one might have discovered.
For Dawn Watson Cabe and Jim Danforth
Hi Dawn and Jim,
Glad that's all sorted out!
What about each of you telling us of your CARDEN connection? A while ago we
had a "Roll Call" and everyone (almost everyone, anyway) responded with a
brief statement of their Carden forbears. Trish very helpfully published
them all on her site, to which I often refer. So, Dawn, Jim and anyone else,
Roll-Call, please!
Arthur
