Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Martha,
Sounds like you had it bad down there!!
We had to take cover in the bathroom, up here in Anniston, for a while, but no damage near us!!
It was rough there for a bit!

Hi Arthur,
We've had some 'killer' bad weather in the SouthEastern U.S. over the last few days...as well as up the East coast too. Our cable modem was knocked out for nearly 2 days by hard hitting lightning that sounded like cannon firing near us ! It was a time to hide in a safe place for sure. So unusual for this time of year to have tornadic weather w/ storms of such magnitude. Our older son, Ray, lives in B'ham, AL and the worst of the Alabama storms went north of that city abt. 40 miles, destroying Carbon Hill, AL almost totally. My sister lives about 80 miles North East of B'ham, near Decatur, AL and several of the 200+ mph tornados touched down almost in their back yard (abt. 5 miles away).
That's a very good point you made about the DNA testing, Arthur... and one I'd reather hand off to a more experienced researchers to answer for sure. As you suggested, I've contacted the SCOT-DNA moderator, John Hansen, w/ your question (you remaining anonymous, of course). Hoperfully, he will answer me soon.
Cheers to all, Martha

The above is from Martha Smith, of course.
Thanks, Martha. I visited the site just now, and it is impressively well
constructed. The help section is particularly good, allowing easy conversion
between the way the numbers are expressed by different organisations. I
tried our Cheshire haplotype, and it appears we share it with a McGregor.
I would welcome views of participants in our Carden DNA Project and of course
from Martha and others as to whether I should enter all our results in this
new database. My own opinion is that this is a waste of time because lots of
people have identical DNA signatures without there being any connection in
the past 1,000 years or more. In my opinion (and others disagree) Identical
DNA signatures are only of interest if those concerned also have identical
surnames, or perhaps other reasons to suspect a connection.
As I mention in my November report, the Y-STR database suggests that there
are about 5 million men in Europe who share our Cheshire Carden haplotype
(signature), and a similar number probably in USA. Putting our results into
the Ybase.org database will merely lead to excited contact from some of these
millions.
But maybe I'm just being a bit negative.
Comments, please! Martha - perhaps your SCOT-DNA(a)Rootsweb.com board has
a convincing refutation of my above opinion! If so, please post it for us.

Hi Listers:
That site for Ybase only worked once and when I tried going back there a 2nd time it timed out... Could be the beta ver. is still in force, so try waiting a day or so if you have trouble initially accessing it.
Sorry for the inconvenience, MARTHA

Dear Researchers,
Ybase is now out of beta testing and has gone live.
www.ybase.org
This is an online database where you can submit your DNA
results for others to compare.
It is free and can handle up to 36 markers.
Be careful when entering your data as the marker input boxes are not listed in the same order to which we are accustomed.
You can search by surname or haplotype

Folks -
Trish has very kindly posted my latest (November) report on her web site, at
http://www.tcarden.com/tree/ensor/00CardenDNAproject1.html
She has done a great job of translating my Word original into HTML. Thanks,
Trish! But if anyone would like me to send them the Word version for
printing, just ask.
Don't forget to "refresh" or in my case press F2 to get the new page, not
merely the old one from your computer cache.
We now have exactly 30 results. The report is completely rewritten and now
includes a few comments on each individual result. All are of great
interest. Some are quite remarkable, like that of the most recent, the one
for James E Carden. Read the report, and tell me what you think! I am very
keen to receive comments and corrections.
Arthur
Thanks Arthur for continuing to do a wonderful job with study. just to let everyone know, i'm still trying to find a relative to take the test, i've sent out more emails to more cousins, hoping someone will respond.

Sorry to post this to the group, but I'm desperate!
If Marcia Carden Foster, or her sister Cindy, is still in the group, would you please get in touch with me!
I may have found someone with a connection to Norman Carden!!
Thanks, Becky Carden, rec(a)hiwaay.net
