I honestly don't know. My connection to him is this:
he was the brother of my great-great-grandfather,
Thomas Barthlomew Carden. According to the 1920
census, Thomas was born apx. 1863 in Alabama, and his
father was born in Georgia. This is my problem, I'm
stuck at Thomas and John -- I know nothing of their
parents. My John was married to a woman identified
from a photo by my grandmother as Fanny. I have the
photo posted on a website. If you'd like, I can send
you the address so you can view this picture and a few
others I've posted.

Mike: Regarding your query on John Carden and Sarah Blisit. The 1880
census of Monroe County shows the John and Sarah Carden family with the
mother in law, Mary A. Blissit living in their household.
What Sarah's name was when John and Sarah married I do not know.
When I find my other information that I have stacked back somewhere from a
correspondent I will let you know if you are interested. Don't remember if
I have sent you this info before or if it was to someone else. Best wishes.

I found your not on Cardinal interesting as we have been trying to chase
down a Carden/Cardinal family in Luzerne Co. Pa. for a cousin (by
marriage). She just died at 94 in Nebr. Her gr.grandmother was Bridget
Cardin who m. Thos Jordan. but the cousin always said Cardinal but the
death cert. said Cardin. Sorry they would be no relation to yours but it
was food for thought. John Fox in Colo.

Mike: At one time I had the information that you need. I will look thru my
records and see if I can find it. If the Bible record you received was
called the "Blisit" family Bible it must have had a connection to a family
of that name, or was the Bible record about John Cardin and his descendents
or was it listing the Blisit family members descendents. I believe I have
information as to where this John Cardin and Sarah Blisit ended up. I had a
letter from a descendent who had done extensive research on the John Cardin
and Sarah Blisit family. Will get back later. Bobbie

I do have a John Carden in my family, but I'm not sure
if it's the same. I have a picture of him and his wife
-- I was told her name was Fanny, but it could've been
a nickname. If you'd like I can e-mail it to you and
see if it helps.

Does anyone have a Walter Carden, born in England 1863?
Family tradition is that he went to America, married there, and had one son
and one daughter.
For any information, many thanks in advance.
Arthur Carden, Horsham, UK.
In "Tennessee Ancestors", vol. 17, no. 2, p. 140-158 is an article
entitled, "Southern War Claims - The Blackman Journal". Major Luther M.
BLACKMAN, Quarter Master, 4th Tennessee Cavalry (USA), who had returned to
Monroe County, TN, following the end of the Civil War and served two terms
in the state legislature, was appointed a Special Internal Revenue
Commissioner and assigned the responsibility of processing claims of East
Tennessee Loyalists who "furnished stores and supplies for the use of the
U. S. Army during the War". Claimants were required to produce witnesses
to their loyalty and to the property seized. BLACKMAN kept a journal of
the claims that were processed through his office. The journal was
abstracted by Lynn McCONKEY and published in this edition. On page 142 of
the alphabetical list is the following:
CARDEN, Robert H. Harrison, James Co., 7/10/1872, #15423. Loyalty -
Peter MOUNGER & David BROMLEY of near Ooltewah. Property - Mary J.
JOHNSON & Larissa CARDEN of Harrison. Property taken near Harrison, (then
Hamilton Co.) about Nov., Dec. 1863 by Maj. Gen Phil H. SHERIDAN of
Sherman's Army and taken in the direction of Knoxville. Amount of claim
was $227.50 but only $185.00 was a( the text ended here but presumably the
last word was "allowed").
Anyone know the ancestry of this Robert H. CARDEN?
