My uncle believes my great, great grandfather was killed in the Civil War. I
do not know his name, only that he had 3 sons and 2 daughters, Norman, Owen,
Alec, Sally and Nancy. Owen's children he believes lived in the Roanoke, Al
area. Norman lived in Randolph County, AL and later moved to LaGrange, GA
where he died in 1935. Norman was father to my grandfather, Ed, as well as
Jim, Elijah, Festus, Ernest, Leon, Lena and Lema. My uncle did not know
where all Uncle Elijah may have lived but he moved to Pontiac, Michigan. He
had children but my uncle couldn't recall any of their names. Nor could he
remember Elijah's wife's name.
I would be pleased to know whether the Elijah from Coosa County might be the
same. I would also be happy to share any of the information I have on my
part of the Carden family. Until my recent contact with Becky Carden, I was
convinced I was from a forgotten tribe of Cardens.
Good Luck, Coosa.
Marcia Carden Foster
Hello All,
There is some information on the LDS site about this set of Herron. I have
run across some of this information before and I thought Columbia Herron had
married a Carden. I will check my information when I get home and if I find
anything of interest I will post to forum. I think Olive Ann Stockton had
married in Troup Co., Georgia.

Becky, This is great news! I'm glad you had a breakthrough.
Sorry to have been so long in responding but I've been out of town.
Carol Carden is the one I was referring to earlier whose father and mother
were friends of my parents. When I saw that you were looking for her address
I tried to find it; but I haven't located it yet. I'm glad you found the old
reference. If you respond to it, I think you may find that Carol will
respond to you.
I hope you have stumbled on to the information I was looking for. Keep it
touch.
Have you heard anything in the past few years about a Carden reunion? I
haven't been to one of those since I was in grade school. My grandfather had
one at his home in LaGrange. I think that was about 37 years ago.

Hi Everyone,
I have an update on my greatgrandfather, Owen Hendrix Carden.
I had his birthdate wrong, its Nov. 26, 1862, and also found it was born
in Al. for sure, thought he might have been born n Ga., and the family
migrated to Al, he was born here in Al.
Just to refresh everyone's memory here is the info I have on him:
Owen Hendrix Carden
b. Nov.26, 1862 d. July 25, 1909
Married: Susan Ella Beaird on Aug. 17, 1886 in Chambers Co. Al.
Any help anyone can give me on finding more info on him or his
ancestors, will be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks so much, Becky Carden
Arthur, Sorry that I procrastinated about sending a check for the Cardens of Roseville. How 'bout an address after Nov 25? Do you have the exact amt. at this point? I suspect the postage will be expensive.

Was wondering if anyone had any information on a George Carden? Don't
know much about him, but he lived in Randolph County, but eventually
moved to Ga. He was married to Clarissa Ward. I'm not completely sure
of the spelling of her first name, and they had a daughter by the same
name.
Any help would be appreciated!

My great-grandfather, Norman Carden, had a brother named Owen who lived
around Roanoke, AL. Could this be the Owen you are looking for? I don't
know his wife's name but I am told he had a daughter named Nancy.

Hi,
I posted this message yesterday, but not sure it went through, so I'm
posting it again!
I'm Rebecca Carden, and I am looking for information on my
greatgrandfather Owen H. Carden, and his ancestors. He was born, Jan.
26, 1862, and died July 25, 1909. He was married to Ella Beaird on Aug.
14, 1886 in Chambers Co. Alabama.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Rebecca Carden
Karen, Thanks for posting the info. I was unable to find John who
married Nancy Moss in my file, (Does anyone have this family?) but was
glad to confirm many of the marriages you listed.
Beth
Dear Folks,
I'm going over some papers that I copied from the Barren Co. library:
The Jimmy Simmons School Papers, compiled by Sandra Gorin, 1991, "L & Mc"
This is a pretty large set of papers that were prepared by high school
students as a requirement for the senior history (maybe civics) class in
the Barren Co. High school, Jimmy Simmons was their teacher. Some of the
papers are very good and do reflect an amount of research or at least
family discussion. I found this:
THE CARDEN FAMILY
1. John Carden m. Nancy Moss. Children:
1. George Carden
2. Press Carden (male)
3. Daniel Carden m. Harriet Ann Harlow. Also shown marrying
Mary Perry. Unknown which was the first wife. Children
by Mary were:
1. Mary Carden m. a Fisher
2. Jim Carden
3. Joe Carden
4. William David Carden b 24 oct 1858 Hart Co. Ky;
d 4 Sept 1937; m 26 Dec 1882 America Keturah Beck
(b 6 Jan 1852; d. 1 Apr 1929; dau jesse Harrison Beck
and Lucind Alexander.) Children:
1. Mary Lucinda Carden b 20 Se[t 1993 Cumberland Co. Ky;
d 29 June 1965; m 10 June 1903 James Powell Gray
2. Jesse Daniel Carden b 19 Feb 1885 same; d 8 Jan 1960
3. Keturah Alexander Carden b 31 Dec 1886 same;
d 19 Feb 1952
4. Harrietta Anne Carden b 1 Apr 1889 same; d 2 Nov 1961
5. Nancy Jane Carden b 2 Oct 1891 same
5. Harriet Ann Carden m. a Frazier
4. Bennet Carden
5. Bush Carden
I added nothing to the above, it is just as I found it in the papers.
I believe that Daniel Carden was not married to Harriet Harlow, but to her
daughter Mary Perry. I found Harriet in the 1870 Hart Co., Ky. census
with: J.E. Carden, 9, m, at home, Ky; Harriet J. Carden, 6, f, at home, Ky.
Also found these:
Hart Co.Ky. marriage Records, Available Transcripts, 1851 - 1907, compiled
by B.K. Stephens, 1986:
P. 3: Susan J. Carden, 21, B: Barren Co., to Joshua M. Brents, 24,
Hart Co., by Isaac Chapline 23 Dec 1852
p. 10 Madison W. Chapline, 24 b: Mercer Co., to Amanda J. Carden, 18,
B: Barren Co. by J. King M.E.C.S, 13 Jan 1853
P. 12: Fielding J. Carden, 27 b: Barren Co., to Harriet C. Wagener,

P. 12: T.J. Carden, 25 B: Hart Co. to Harriet Wagener 22, B: Hart Co.
by A.L.Alderson, M.E.C.S. 5 June 1854
P. 20: Martha Carden, 25, wid, b: Barren Co., John M. White,
31y 5m 27d b: Barren Co., 21 Feb 1856
P. 24: America E. Carden, 19y b: Barren Co. to David W. Whitman,
20y 4m B: Hart Co., by W. W. Lambuth, M.E.C.S. 25 June 1857
p. 35: M.B. Carden, 28 b: Hart Co., to Eliza J. Garvin, 22
B: Hart Co., 24 Sept 1859
Does anyone have any information about Mary Perry and her husband Daniel
Carden, in particular descendants?
Thank you
Karen
