Hello Mailing lists, I think we should all
contact the census people about this so called
short form, that is a "BIG FARCE" , as for
taking a census. When 1 out of 6 households get
a long form, this is discrimination, against the
majority of the American people. In the message
below is an explanation I received, it keeping
the burden low for the majority of Americans.
There are more Americans now, who can read and
write than ever before, so, what burden are they
talking about? It shows just what their
thoughtlessness is for the Majority of Americans.
If, you can or feel like I do, why not send a
complaint to the address ;

Granted, it is late now, but we should make our
feelings know, to the Bureaucrats, some way. I
too, made my feeling early on, when this subject
came up a year ago, but we need to make it more
loud and clear, this time.
Always, Imo Greenwood

forms
Dear Imo,
Many genealogists feel the same as you on this
issue. The frustration is a
result of the tension between why the census
exists, and how
people have come to
use it. Originally, the Constitution mandated a
census of the
population as a
means of distributing political representation.
As the Nation
expanded, there
was an increasing need for national statistics on
a number of
topics and the
census was used as the vehicle for collecting
that information.
As a result,
past census records have become a very rich
genealogical tool.
What the Bureau
is trying to do (and has done since 1940) with
the division of
the long and
short form is to collect basic information on the
short form
from everyone to
distribute political representation, and more
detailed
information from the long
form. Long-form information is used by the
government to
distribute federal
dollars to communities and to enforce legislation
(such as the
Voting Rights
Act). Every item on the census is required by
Congress or the
Supreme Court to
administer our laws and enforce Judicial
decisions. Having both
the long and
short forms is a way to collect accurate and
detailed
information from the
nation while keeping the response burden low for
the majority of
Americans.

This year 2000 census taking form, short one, 5
people out of 6 gets, is a "BIG FARCE", It is
a total insult to the people of this country,
that some are determined to be more important
than
others, and more information is taken from them.
God help you people who have done this to us
AMERICANS.
More money is blown away on things of no value to
us AMERICANS every day, and you can not take
a census report that has some MERIT to it. What
has this country come
too??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
