I too am looking for a CARD. My grandmother on my fathers side was Agnes Card who died in
Billings, Montana. I would like to track her ancestry down. Right now I am in China. Since
you mention Kinderhook, New York--a bit of trivia: what is the most frequently
used/repeated [ad nausium] word in the world???? THE MOST FREQUENTLY REPEATED WORD IN THE
WORLD IN ANY LANGUAGE? O.K. of course--which Martin Van Buren popularized during his
campaign for president. It, of course, stands for Old Kinderhook. The Chinese repeat it
over and over again--even when speaking Chinese. So, with 1.3 billion people--added to the
hundreds of millions of native English speakers all over the world--it has to be the most
repeated word in any language.
Best Wishes,
Hal Mettes--grandson of Agnes Card

Subject: [CARD] Catherine Miller / Martin VanBuren
I am wondering if anyone has any information about Catherine Miller
(2-23-1808 Kinderhook or Stuyvesant NY to 11-25-1885 Sylvania, Bradford
County, NY). She married Henry Card (1789 N. Kingston, RI to 1877
Sylvania, PA). Her parents were Cornelius D. and Anna (Nichols?) Miller. I
found Cornelius and Anna in the 1875 census where they had death listings.
They were in Stuyvesant, Columbia county in 1870. Family history says that
Catherine grew up in Kinderhook as a neighbor to Martin VanBuren and that
after he became president, he brought her a Jewish Elm tree from one of
his trips oversees. It was planted on the CARD homestead and was there
until the early 1900's when it was stuck by lightening. I cannot find the
two in the same census.
